A ROOM THAT ALMOST DISAPPEARED

Some things don’t disappear overnight.
They fade slowly, quietly until no one remembers they were ever there.
The rococo interior of the Fundatie van Renswoude came dangerously close to that point.

WHAT THIS HAS TO DO WITH YOU
This isn’t just about a historical space.
It’s about value.
And who decides what is worth keeping.
Because what almost happened here, happens every day in a different form.
To artists.
To ideas.
To work that doesn’t fit the system.
TOO COMPLEX.
TOO DIFFERENT. TOO MUCH.
The interior was never simple.
Not in design.
Not in intention.
And that’s exactly what made it vulnerable.
Too detailed.
Too specific.
Too far removed from what is considered “efficient” today.
Sound familiar?
THE SYSTEM DOESN’T WAIT
In a world that moves fast, there is little patience for depth.
Things need to be clear.
Marketable.
Easy to place.
And if they’re not they risk being overlooked.
Not because they lack value, but because they require attention.
THE DECISION TO KEEP
Restoring this space wasn’t just about history.
It was a statement.
A refusal to simplify somethingjust to make it easier to accept.
A decision to keep complexity alive even when it doesn’t immediately serve a function.
WHAT REMAINS
The interior is still there.
Not because it adapted.
But because someone chose not to let it disappear.
And that choice matters.
FOR THE ARTIST
Because your work might not always fit.
It might be too layered.
Too quiet.
Too intense.
Or simply not made for the moment it’s in.
That doesn’t make it less valuable.
It just meansit needs the right space.
MØODHOOD
Not everything needs to be changedto be understood.
Some things need to be protecteduntil the right eyes meet them.
Not just art. Human experience.
